Resurrected-Here-ness
In my previous post (Change the end of the story and everything changes…) I wrote about it not being enough to merely ‘find Jesus in everything’ but to actually join Jesus in where he is working. But how exactly do we achieve that?
I’ll be writing in another post that we won’t necessarily join Jesus’ work in a community (or without a community) of Christians, but that post will be coming soon.
If we follow Jesus, we need to follow Him to his death, and then be resurrected with Him (Romans 6:5-11). And if that is what we as disciples should do, and Jesus instructed us to make disciples, that’s the type of lifestyle we need to live to actually make disciples.
“if you like it or not, ‘right-here’ is our unchosen responsibility” – Leonard Sweet
The only thing you’re supposed to do as Christian, is to be in a madly in love relationship with Jesus, and to live the message of hope and resurrection towards everyone in our immediate context – whether they’re Christians or not. Why do you give hundreds of rands/dollars/time to a (relatively) famous charity, rather than to build a relationship with the guy working in your garden or to actually spend quality time with your family, etc?
Jesus interacted with the (all sorts of) people on His journey to Jerusalem, not with a certain bunch of folks in isolation at a specific spot.
What’s my point?
As followers of Jesus, we need to have an attitude and lifestyle of ‘Resurrected-Here-ness’.
