The wedding with a [transforming] twist

Nothing wrong with drinking a fine glass of red wine…but the significance of this story is not so much about drinking wine…

1 On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.2 Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples.3 When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.”4 And Jesus said to her, ”Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.”5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.t7 Jesus said to the servants, ”Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.8 And he said to them, ”Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it.9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

John 2:1-11

In ancient times, a wedding was really pimpin’ if the food and wine never got finished.  If it did, it sucked, and the attendees would be very disgusted.

Jesus saved this wedding from being a shameful event.  He saved the wedding through Transformation.   It’s not so much about the wine here, than it’s about salvation.  Salvation from the world’s system & salvation from shame.

Jesus did these deeds to reveal the presence of God in him, leading the people to faith:

“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of  the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus IS the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name” – John 20: 30-31

Jesus shows in this Scripture that He wants us to be transformed.  He transforms a natural substance like water into a new creation of the finest wine.  AGAIN – it’s NOT ABOUT THE WINE…it’s about the Transformation into the True life, the living in relationship with God.

“…but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God” – Romans 12:2

These signs Jesus did wasn’t just significant in the moment, it showed us towards the endless Truth of a God that is present & everlasting; a God that wants to be in a loving relationship with you; and a God that is all about new creation, salvation and the Transforming of your life…

…But it will come with a cost…

EVERYTHING you are – must die.

And yes.  You will lose your popularity.
